Do I need a will?
A will can help you:
Control how your estate property is disposed;
Select an Executor to oversee this disposition;
Avoid costly Probate proceedings;
Reduce your Estate Tax liability;
Name a guardian for minor children; or
Appoint a Trustee to manage property for charity or loved ones.
The alternative is to rely on the state to make these critical decisions for you and your heirs upon your death. In addition to a will, or as an alternative to one, you can have a trust or property with rights of survivorship.
